PRB: Compiler Hangs On Some Systems With >16MB RAMID: Q97673
|
An attempt to use the compiler on a computer that has more than 16 MB of memory installed fails, and the compiler crashes.
The computer uses an bus-mastering SCSI controller on an ISA machine. The adapter cannot address above 16 MB of memory.
In some cases, installing SMARTDrive with double buffering corrects this
problem. For more information on double buffering in SMARTDrive, please
refer to the "Microsoft Windows User's Guide."
Adaptec has solved this problem in their latest SCSI driver. ASPIBUF.SYS is
a double buffering driver which allows addressing above 16M. Please contact
other vendors to see if they have solutions available.
It may be possible to use the compiler from MS-DOS (with EMM386 installed)
to successfully build applications.
