The information in this article applies to:
When you use RasDial() in a stand-alone application and an invalid username or password is supplied, the following error message appears:
ERROR_AUTHENTICATION_FAILURE
However when an application calls RasDial() to dial in a service with an
invalid username or password, you get an Access Violation at location
0000:0000.
You must ensure that a valid username and password is either hard-coded, or, if you have a GUI, then you need to prompt the users to enter a valid username and password in order to prevent the application from hanging.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this bug and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
