DOCERR: Resource Compiler Maximum String Length Incorrect

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Win32 Software Development Kit (SDK), used with:
- Microsoft Windows NT 3.51
- Microsoft Windows versions 95, 4.0

The Tools User's Guide included with the Microsoft Win32 SDK specifies that string resources definined in a resource script "must be no longer than 255 characters and must occupy a single line in the source file."

This information is incorrect. The actual maximum length of a string resource for the resource compiler included with the Win32 SDK is 4097 characters.
