Excel: Menus Disappear or Hang with Moire ScreenSaver

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 2.2, 3.0, 4.0

SUMMARY

If the Moire ScreenSaver (versions earlier than 3.0) goes into sleep mode with Microsoft Excel active, Microsoft Excel may lose its menu bar or can crash entirely when the screen is redrawn. If this problem occurs, you cannot get the menu bar back without restarting the Macintosh. Microsoft Excel also may crash if you try to use any keyboard shortcuts.

This problem was corrected in version 3.0 of the Moire ScreenSaver.

MORE INFORMATION

If Microsoft Excel is redrawn without menus, you may be able to save any changes to open documents by clicking the window's close box and clicking Yes in the "Save Changes in '<filename>'?" alert box. Once the open documents are saved, you can cause Microsoft Excel to "unexpectedly quit" under MultiFinder by pressing COMMAND+Q (quit) or restarting the machine.
