Excel: Multiple Alerts Displayed When Closing WK3 fileID: Q84277
|
Saving and closing a WK3 file in Microsoft Excel may result in one or more instances of the following alert message:
Cannot write record (Name:PLY<PlyLetter>) Continue reporting errors?
This error message will occur if the WK3 file was created in Lotus 1-2-3 versions 3.x and contains globally defined names. To stop the alert from being displayed each time a record cannot be written, choose the No button in the alert box.
This stream of alerts is a result of the way Excel handles global
names defined on WK3 worksheets. In Lotus 1-2-3, it is possible to
define names that are global to all of the plys in a 3-D worksheet. To
simulate this, Excel creates a number of temporary names when the WK3
file is opened and deletes them when the file is closed. This alert is
displayed each time one of these temporary names is removed. The
number of alerts depends on the number of plys and the number of
global names defined on the WK3 worksheet.
The alert asks if you want Excel to continue reporting errors. By
choosing No, Excel will complete closing your file without displaying
the alert. Note that this method does not cause data to be lost.
