Excel: Outlining Icon Disappears in Outline Mode

SUMMARY
The outlining icon to collapse or expand a section of the outline should
appear above a row or column. If you apply outlining to a hidden row or
column, the outlining icon that should appear above the hidden row or
column is not displayed.

Steps to Reproduce Problem
- Start Microsoft Excel.
- Select cells A1 and B1 and click the demote icon (right arrow) in
the tool bar or press ALT+SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW on the keyboard. Select
Columns when prompted.
- Notice the outlining icon that appears above column C.
- Select cell F1 and choose Column Width from the Format menu. Then
choose Hide.
- Select cells D1 and E1 and click the demote icon (right arrow) in
the tool bar or press ALT+SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW on the keyboard. Select
Columns when prompted.
- Notice that the outlining icon does not appear in the outlining
margin. The other outlining information does show up in the margin
area but the icon is hidden.
To view the icon, unhide column F.
Note: This procedure also relates to rows.
