Excel: Printing an Ampersand in a Header or FooterID: Q89627
|
In order to have an ampersand print in the header or footer of Microsoft Excel it is necessary to enter two ampersands where a single ampersand should appear.
The ampersand, by default, is used to initiate codes for special formatting
in the headers and footers therefore to enter an ampersand in the header or
footer it is necessary to enter two.
For example to enter "Johnson & Sons" in the header or footer area of Page
Setup it would be necessary to type it as "Johnson && Sons".
There is an additional consideration when you type in certain character
strings as well. For example, if the text string "MP&L" is desired in a
header or footer, "MP && L" (including the spaces on either side of the
ampersand) must be typed in order to get consistent results.
Previous versions of Microsoft Excel also use the ampersand for header or
footer formatting codes and require the double ampersand to print a single
ampersand. However, the documentation for Microsoft Excel version 4.0
excludes this information.
