SUMMARY

Two very useful commands in Novell that will help you work with network problems are FLAG and MAP.

MORE INFORMATION

Using MAP to View Your Current Drive Mappings

To view the mappings of all your current local and network drives, issue the following MAP command and press ENTER:

   MAP

You will see information similar to the following:

Drive A: Maps to a local drive
Drive B: Maps to a local drive
Drive C: Maps to a local drive
   Drive F: = EDGAR/SYS:HOME/JOE
   Drive G: = EDGAR/SYS:
     _____

   SEARCH1: = Z:. [EDGAR/SYS:PUBLIC]
   SEARCH2: = Y:. [EDGAR/SYS:WINDOWS]
   SEARCH3: = X:. [EDGAR/SYS:WINDOWS/VGAWIN]

The three SEARCH drives listed will replace the original PATH command when you log into Novell. If you type PATH at the DOS prompt, you see the following:

   PATH=Z:.;Y:.;X:.

Using FLAG to View File Attributes in Your Default Directory

To view the attributes of all the files in your default directory, issue the following command and press ENTER:

   FLAG

Information similar to the following will appear on your screen:

   SALES.EXE Shareable ReadOnly
   SALES.BAT Shareable Read/Write
   SALES.HLP Shareable ReadOnly
   SALES.DAT Non-shareable Read/Write Transactional Index

The first column shows the filename. The second column shows whether the file is flagged Shareable or Non-shareable. The third shows whether the file is flagged Read-Only or Read-Write. The fourth and fifth columns show whether the file is flagged Transactional or Indexed. You don't need to worry about the fourth and fifth columns.
