Excel: Saving an Excel 3.0 Template From Excel 4.0

SUMMARY
Excel 4.0 does not support the ability to save a file in Excel 3.0's
template file format. To create an Excel 3.0 template, the document
needs to be saved in Excel 3.0 file format and marked as a stationery
file from the Macintosh desktop with system 7.
MORE INFORMATION
Attempting to open an Excel 4.0 template file from within Excel 3.0
creates the following error message:
Stationery document is not saved in Normal Excel format. Opening
as a nonstationery file.
The Excel 4.0 document subsequently loads as a Text file and displays
garbage text or characters.
To create an Excel 3.0 template using Excel 4.0 with system 7:
- Save the document in Excel 3.0 file format and close the file.
- Switch to the Finder and click the document to select it.
- From the File menu, choose Get Info.
- Select the Stationery Pad checkbox in the lower right of the Get
Info window.
To create an Excel 3.0 template using Excel 4.0 with system 6.0.x:
- Save the document in Excel 3.0 file format and close the file.
- Load the document in Excel 3.0.
- From the File menu, choose Save As.
- Click the Options button.
- Set the file format to Template and choose the OK button.
- Click Save.
