Lotus Charts Open Differently in Excel 4.0 and Later

SUMMARY

By default, Microsoft Excel automatically creates any charts associated with an imported Lotus worksheet when a 1-2-3 worksheet is opened.

Note that this behavior is different from earlier versions of Microsoft Excel.

If you do not want these charts to be created automatically, you can modify the Microsoft Excel initialization (.INI) file to disable this behavior.

Lotus 1-2-3 charts are part of a worksheet. Microsoft Excel uses a separate file for charts (unless they're embedded on the worksheet).

In Microsoft Excel version 2.1 or 3.0, when you open a Lotus 1-2-3 worksheet, you are prompted for permission to create any associated charts. In Microsoft Excel versions 4.0 and later, you are not prompted for permission.

To configure Microsoft Excel versions 4.0 and later so they ignore any associated charts when you open a Lotus 1-2-3 worksheet, you must modify the Microsoft .INI file.

To modify the Microsoft EXCEL4.INI or EXCEL5.INI file

In the EXCEL4.INI, [WK? Settings] section allows you to specify Lotus 1-2-3 worksheet settings.

If you want Microsoft Excel to automatically create all associated charts when a you open 1-2-3 worksheet is opened in Microsoft Excel, use the following setting: 


   LOAD_CHART_WND=1


If you want Microsoft Excel to ignore associated charts, use this setting: 


   LOAD_CHART_WND=0

NOTE: To modify the .INI file, use a text editor such as Windows Notepad.
