The information in this article applies to:
In the versions of Microsoft Query listed above, you may receive the following error message when you create a new table in a Microsoft Access 2.0 database:
Syntax in CREATE TABLE statement
The above error message occurs because a field in the table being added has the Required option set in the Add Table dialog box. This option specifies whether a field is required or if it can contain null values.
For any field that has the Required option set, turn it off by performing the following steps:
1. In the Fields list, select any field that has the Required option set to
Required and choose Remove.
2. Clear the Required check box, and then choose Add.
The field should now be displayed as a Nullable field.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft Access 2.0 ODBC driver, version 1.0 for Windows. This driver is available only with Microsoft Access 2.0. This problem was corrected in the Microsoft Access 2.0 driver, version 2.0 for Windows, which is shipped as part of the Microsoft ODBC Desktop Database Drivers kit and can be obtained by calling the Microsoft Sales Information Center at (800) 426-9400. The new Microsoft Access 2.0 driver has the Required check box disabled.
