In Microsoft Query, if you use the Create Database button in the ODBC Microsoft Access Setup dialog box to create a new database, the database still exists on your hard drive, even if you choose Cancel in the ODBC Microsoft Access Setup dialog box.
This behavior occurs because the new database you create using the Create Database dialog box is not removed when you cancel the Data Source setup procedure. Note that a new Data Source is not created when you cancel the driver setup dialog box for a given data source.
To work around this problem, you must delete the unwanted Microsoft Access database file (you can do this from File Manager or from the MS-DOS). Note that the Microsoft Access database file is created with a .MDB file extension by default.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
When you create a Microsoft Access Database using the Create Database dialog box, you receive the following confirmation message
Database <drive><path><database> successfully created.
where <drive> and <path> are the drive and directory in which you
create the new database, and <database> is the name you enter for the
new database.
After you receive this message, the database is not removed by choosing Cancel in any of the subsequent dialog boxes.
Note that when you use the Microsoft Access 2.0 ODBC driver [Access 2.0 for MS Office (*.MDB)], you do not have the option to create a new database using the driver setup dialog box (ODBC Setup For Microsoft Access dialog box).
