Err Msg: Cannot Find CPQ6100.OVL w/COMPAQ NetFlex

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1

SYMPTOMS

When you install a COMPAQ NetFlex 32-bit controller in a DEC Alpha system, you are prompted for the Compaq EISA configuration utility, which ships on a disk with the COMPAQ NetFlex controller. However, once you insert the disk, an error message appears indicating that the file CPQ6100.OVL cannot be found, and you are unable to successfully install the controller.

CAUSE

On the Compaq EISA configuration disk, there is a !CPQ6100.CFG file, which is read when you install the network card. That file references the CPQ6100.OVL file, which is specific to the x86 platform.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, open the !CPQ6100.CFG file in a text editor, and remove the line:

   INCLUDE = "CPQ6100.OVL"

Also remove any other references to the CPA6100.OVL file that you find there. Save this new !CPQ6100.CFG file to the Compaq disk (after first backing up the original !CPQ6100.CFG file).
