POKE Example Uses Invalid Bookmark Name in Excel

Last reviewed: November 3, 1994
Article ID: Q72870

SUMMARY

The POKE example and description of the example on page 184 of the "Microsoft Excel Function Reference" for version 3.0 describe a bookmark named COMM.BAK.

This is incorrect. Help for Word for Windows states

A bookmark name can contain up to 20 characters and must contain
   only letters, digits, and underscores.

You must modify the bookmark name before the example will work correctly. "COMM_BAK", "COMM", and "COMMBAK" ARE all valid bookmark names.

This documentation error does not occur in Excel version 4.0.
