MAKE35.BAT and MAKE525.BAT Fail When Run From File Manager

ID: Q106001

The information in this article applies to:

To make 3.5-inch or 5.25-inch disk images after downloading CSD525.EXE or CSD35.EXE (from CompuServe or FTP.MICROSOFT.COM), MAKE35.BAT or MAKE525.BAT must be run with a drive letter parameter. If either of these two files is run by double-clicking the file in File Manager, the process appears to fail after the following message:

NOTE: In addition, the disk images must be stored in a directory that subscribes to the FAT "8.3" naming convention (where there are no more than 8 characters before the period and three after).

Do you have five formatted 3.5 1.44 floppy Diskettes ?
Enter [y]es or [n]o to continue [yn]

After you enter y for yes, the screen flashes and returns to File Manager. The following message is displayed, but it is displayed too quickly to be seen just before the window closes:

In order to complete the creation process, MAKE35 needs to know
the drive letter where the floppy diskettes will be located.
   for example : MAKE35 A: if your 3.5 drive is A:

      -or- MAKE35 B: if your 3.5 drive is B:

Please rerun MAKE35 with the appropriate options.
   MAKE35 will now exit.

If you still want to run the batch file from File Manager, highlight the file, select Run from the File menu and add the drive letter of the correct floppy drive to the command line.
