The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Windows NT operating system version 3.1
  • Microsoft Windows NT Advanced Server version 3.1

Network interface cards (NIC) that use the IBM/National Semiconductor Token Ring Protocol Interface Controller (TROPIC) chip set should be fully compatible with IBM Token-Ring Adapters and thus compatible with the IBM Token-Ring Driver that ships with Windows NT.

The following adapters use the TROPIC chip set:

   3Com TokenLink
   Accton Technology Ring Pair-4/16 T
   Asante Technologies TokenPac
   Compex TNET-16
   D-Link DT-220
   D-Link DT-320
   D-Link DT-620
IBM Token-Ring Network 16/4 EISA Adapter
   Klever Computers K1601 MC
   Klever Computers K1604
Madge Networks Straight Blue ISA Adapter
Madge Networks Straight Blue ISA + Adapter
Madge Networks Straight Blue MC Adapter
   North Hills Electronics ISA Adapter
   Plexcom Plexnet 8086
   SilCom Technology TR Direct/Blue ISA
   Thomas-Conrad Token Ring Adapter 16/4 Model 4043

For additional information concerning compatibility, contact the manufacturer of the individual adapter.

Listed below is the TROPIC chip set that IBM licensed from National Semiconductor.

   DP8025 Token Ring Interface Controller
DP802511 TROPIC RAM Relocation Register Decoder
   DP802512 Upper Memory Decoder
   DP802513 Memory MEMCS-16 Signal Decoder
   DP802514 TROPIC REEF
   DP802515 TROPIC PELE

The DP802514 and DP802515 are Microcode ROMs for the TROPIC Token-Ring Network Controllers and they feature an interface that is compatible to DP8025 Interface Controller to allow direct interfacing without the use of GLUE logic.
