SUMMARY

You will be unable to access certain options from the Help menu in Microsoft Excel 3.00 if WINHELP.EXE has been deleted, renamed, or cannot be found.

MORE INFORMATION

Excel 3.00 uses the Windows 3.00 help engine and is therefore dependent on the WINHELP.EXE file. WINHELP.EXE is normally located in your Windows 3.00 directory. If WINHELP.EXE cannot be found for any reason, and you select Index or Keyboard from the Help menu in Excel, the hourglass will appear on the screen for a few seconds and then disappear. No Help screen for the selected topic appears. Help for Lotus, Multiplan, and the Tutorial all work correctly.

Solution

If WINHELP.EXE has been deleted, the solution is to expand the WINHELP.EXE file from the Windows 3.00 Setup disks and copy it into the Windows directory.

   expand.exe and winhelp.exe and windows
