Wildcard Characters Do Not Work with the Find Command

SUMMARY

If you enter wildcard characters in the Find dialog box, Q+E will search for the wildcard characters. To use the Find command correctly, enter only the characters that will actually be part of the record for which you are searching.

The following is an example of incorrect use:

  1. Open EMP.DBF.

  2. Highlight any value in the First_Name column.

  3. From the Search menu, choose Find.

  4. Enter Dav* in the dialog box.

  5. The "The string was not found: Dav*" message appears.

The following is an example of correct use:

  1. Open EMP.DBF.

  2. Highlight any value in the First_Name column.

  3. From the Search menu, choose Find.

  4. Enter "Dav" in the dialog box.

  5. The first occurrence of "David" is highlighted.
