"SGML Author Not Found..." Installing SGML Author

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft SGML Author for Word, version 1.0
Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c

SYMPTOMS

When attempting to install SGML Author, you receive the following error and SGML Author is not installed:

   SGML Author not found, please install SGML Author for Word.

This behavior only occurs when you try to install SGML Author immediately after you installed Word and you chose not to restart Windows at the end of the Word installation. This problem does not occur if you started Word before installing SGML Author.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SGML Author for Word for Windows, version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

RESOLUTION

Exit and restart Windows or start Word, and then reinstall SGML Author.
