The information in this article applies to:
After you use Word's AutoFormat feature once in a document, in subsequent passes the AutoFormat review process ignores the last paragraph mark. Also, if you try to type new text at the end of an AutoFormatted document, sometimes the text is formatted as hidden text.
This problem occurs when the original document's last paragraph mark was immediately preceded by text. The problem does not occur when the last paragraph mark is preceded by another paragraph mark.
By design, the AutoFormat process adds a hidden paragraph mark to the end of your document. Because the paragraph mark is hidden, the AutoFormat process ignores it. If you put the insertion point before that paragraph mark and try to insert text, the new text will be hidden too.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word 6.0 and 6.0a for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
Change the character format of the last paragraph mark to nonhidden. To do this, select the last paragraph mark, choose Font from the Format menu, and clear the Hidden check box under Effects.
