The information in this article applies to:
When you insert a CreateDate field in a Word 6.0 document that has been started from a Windows 95 desktop shortcut, the field displays zeros. The field displays zeros even after you update the field.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Word version 6.0, 6.0a, and 6.0c for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
Method 1: Before you insert the CreateDate field, save the document.
When you insert the field, the field will display the create
date.
Method 2: Create the following macro, name it AutoOpen, and store it in
your Normal template.
Sub MAIN
Dim DocInf As DocumentStatistics
GetCurValues DocInf
If Len(DocInf.Created) < 1 Then
Pth$ = FileNameInfo$(FileName$(), 5)
Nm$ = FileNameInfo$(FileName$(), 3)
ScreenUpdating 0
SendKeys "{enter}"
FileSaveAs .Name = Pth$ + "xxxxxxxx.doc"
Kill Pth$ + Nm$
SendKeys "{enter}"
FileSaveAs .Name = Pth$ + Nm$
Kill Pth$ + "xxxxxxxx.doc"
End If
End Sub
