In Microsoft Word for Windows, if you create paragraphs with box borders, the border surrounds the selection of paragraphs instead of creating separate boxes for each paragraph. You can create separate box borders for consecutive paragraphs by slightly changing the paragraph indent or border format between paragraphs.
When formatting paragraphs for a box border, the selected paragraphs share the box border if they have the same border formatting. Word for Windows uses the following rule: if borders are formatted identically AND located next to each another, they are combined to create one box. To circumvent this rule, make sure the borders are not formatted exactly the same. To create the effect of separate box borders for each paragraph without separating the paragraphs with a blank line, change the format of the border slightly.
To create this effect with two paragraphs that are sharing a box border, change the right margin of one of the paragraphs as follows:
1. Position the insertion point in one of the paragraphs.
2. From the Format menu, choose Paragraph.
3. Change the Right Margin Indent to 0.01", and choose the OK button.
This procedure adjusts the width of the border around this paragraph, but it is an unnoticeable change. This difference causes the box borders to apply to both paragraphs separately.
You can use a second method in Word for Windows version 2.0. Change the Distance From Text option for one of the paragraph borders as follows:
1. Position the insertion point in one of the paragraphs.
2. From the Format menu, choose Border.
3. Change the From Text option to 0.01", and choose the OK button.
