SUMMARYIn Microsoft Word, a custom font may display a square box or an unrecognizable character on the screen and in print preview when you type an apostrophe or quotation mark if the Smart Quotes option is selected in the Preferences dialog box (on the Tools menu in 5.0 or the Edit menu in 4.0). If this occurs, the font will not print the quotation mark or apostrophe from Word even though the font may correctly display the character in Key Caps and in other applications.
CAUSEWord uses ASCII codes for smart quotes. If the custom font does not have the ASCII codes for smart quotes defined, typing a quotation mark results in unrecognized characters that will not be printed.
