The information in this article applies to:
If you print a document that includes an envelope (added using the Create Envelope command) on a Hewlett-Packard (HP) DeskJet printer while running Microsoft Word for Windows using Microsoft Windows operating system version 3.1, the printer does not switch back to the selected paper tray after printing the envelope. This may cause Windows to display a message indicating that the printer is out of paper.
The Hewlett-Packard PCL (printer control language) command that causes the printer to switch to the paper tray is never actually sent to the DeskJet. Consequently, the printer continues to attempt to feed paper from the envelope tray.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the versions of Microsoft Word for Windows listed above. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
Insert a PRINT field at the top of the page following the envelope:
{PRINT "<esc>&l1H"}
Note: The <esc> is created by typing ALT+27.
