XL: Corners of Double Borders Do Not Meet Around Angled Cell

SYMPTOMS

In the versions of Microsoft Excel listed at the beginning of this article, if you apply double borders around a cell with an orientation that is set to a value other than 0 (zero), 90, or -90 degrees, the borders may not meet at the corners of the cell.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not apply double borders around cells that are angled. If you apply any other kind of border, such as a single or dashed border, the problem does not occur.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

In the versions of Microsoft Excel listed at the beginning of this article, you can angle a cell by setting the cell orientation to a value other than 0, 90, or -90 degrees. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Select the cell that you want to angle.

2. On the Format menu, click Cells. Click the Alignment tab.

3. Under Orientation, click the Degrees arrow to set the angle you want. 

   Then, click OK.
To apply borders around a cell, follow these steps:

1. Select the cell.

2. On the Format menu, click Cells. Click the Border tab.

3. In the Style box, select the border style you want to use. Then, click 

   a side of the diagram in the Border box to apply a single border, or
   click one of the buttons under Presets.
4. When you are done, click OK.

The double border is the lower rightmost border in the Style box.
