The information in this article applies to:
When you choose Object from the Insert menu and choose the object type labeled "Microsoft Word Document" or "Word Document," Word opens up a document window with margins of 0 (zero) inches on all sides.
Word sets the margins at 0 inches in a document object so your document does not contain excessive white space around the object due to the combination of two sets of margin settings.
If you want specific margins for all document objects, use an .INI switch to designate a particular template to be used when word spawns a document object. The .INI switch oledot=c:\winword6\template\<favorite.dot> must be added in the [Microsoft Word] section of the WINWORD6.INI, where <favorite.dot> is the name of any existing template. This allows the created document object to take on the characteristics, including margins, of the specified template.
Example of the WINWORD6.INI entry:
[Microsoft Word]
oledot=c:\winword6\template\faxcovr1.dot
Steps to use: 1. Open the file Macro7.dot in the Msoffice\Winword\Macros folder 2. Choose Macro in the Tools menu 3. Select the RegOptions macro and click on run 4. Click the Option drop-down menu and select OLEDOT 5. Enter the new template path and filename in the Setting section, click
the change button, and click on OK
Note: The margins indicated in the template will be added to the margins set for the document into which the document object is placed. For example, if the document has a left and right margin of 1.25 inches, and the designated template for the inserted object has left and right margins of 1 inch, the resulting document will reflect 2.25-inch left and right margins where the document object is located.
Additionally, if you want to set custom margins for individual document objects, you can set the margins when in the document object editing window in the same way that you set margins for a standard Word 6.0 document.
