When you try to add a custom-size envelope to a document that has a top margin of 3.5 inches or more, you may receive the following error message:
The Requested Envelope Size is Not Valid
Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
Method 1: Start with a page setup with a top margin measurement that is
less than 3.5 inches. Add the desired custom-size envelope to the
document, then change the top margin of the document to the
desired size.
Method 2: Change the top margin, and use Space Before to simulate the large
margin.
a. From the File menu, choose Page Setup.
b. Select the Margins tab.
c. Change the top margin measurement to 1 inch.
d. With the insertion point on the first line of your document,
choose Paragraph from the Format menu.
e. Select the Indents And Spacing tab.
f. In the Spacing Before box, type 2.5".
This will imitate a 3.5" top margin. If you want a different top
margin, adjust the numbers accordingly.
This problem does not occur with Word for Windows NT.
