SYMPTOMS

When you open a Microsoft Excel 4.0 or 5.0 spreadsheet that contains exponential formulas in Word 6.0 or 6.0a, the formulas may convert incorrectly.

CAUSE

The Microsoft Excel worksheet converter is incorrectly interpreting the exponential formulas.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem, and we will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

WORKAROUND

Method 1: Copy and paste the data from the Microsoft Excel worksheet:

          a. In Microsoft Excel, open the worksheet and select the cells.

          b. From the Edit menu, choose Copy.

          c. Open the Word 6.0 document, position the insertion point, and
             choose Paste from the Edit menu.

Method 2: Insert the data as an object:

          a. In Word 6.0, choose Object from the Insert menu.

          b. Select the Create From File tab, select the file, and choose
             OK.
