Formatting Checker Displays Incorrect Information for Frames

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Word for Windows, versions 6.0, 6.0a, 6.0c
Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, version 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.1a

SYMPTOMS

If you check the formatting of a frame, Word may display incorrect Size information under Frame Formatting. (To check the formatting of a frame, click Help on the Standard toolbar or press SHIFT+F1. When the mouse pointer changes to a question mark, click the frame in your document.)

CAUSE

If you apply the following Text Wrapping and Size formatting to your frame

   Text Wrapping:       Around
   Width:               Auto
   Height:              At Least 2"

then Word displays the following incorrect width (horizontal) information when you check the formatting of the frame:

   Size: At Least 2" (horiz.), At Least 2" (vert.)

NOTE: In Word for the Macintosh, a meaningless square box character precedes the size information.

WORKAROUND

To check the formatting of a frame, select the frame and then click Frame on the Format menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 6.0, 6.0a, and 6.0c for Windows and in Word version 6.0 for the Macintosh. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
