The information in this article applies to:
When you scroll through the Edit Links dialog box in Word for Windows, a general protection (GP) fault in Module WINWORD.EXE occurs.
The GP fault occurs if your document contains links that you created using an INCLUDE field and if the switches in your INCLUDE field are in the wrong order. For example, if your document contains the following INCLUDE field, a GP fault may occur when you scroll through the Edit Links dialog box:
{INCLUDE <filename> \*CHARFORMAT \*MERGEFORMAT \c AnsiText}
By contrast, the GP fault does NOT occur if the document contains the
following INCLUDE field, in which the order of the switches is correct:
{INCLUDE <filename> \c AnsiText \*CHARFORMAT \*MERGEFORMAT}
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 6.0, 6.0a, and 6.0c for Windows. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
For online information about the INCLUDE field and its switches, double- click the Help button on the Standard toolbar and then type "include" (without the quotation marks).
