How to Create a Blank Button on the Toolbar

SUMMARY

On page 6 of "What's New in Microsoft Word 5.1," the instructions that describe how to create a blank button are incomplete. The section "To create a blank button on the toolbar," explains how to create a toolbar button without an associated command, but it does not explain how to create a button that does not have a picture.

To create a button without a picture on the Word toolbar:

1. On the toolbar, choose the Toolbar button open down the Toolbar menu.

2. From the Toolbar menu, choose Customize.

3. In the Customize dialog box, under Button Position, select the button position where you want to create a blank button.

4. Under Command, select the command you want to assign to the button (if you want to associate the blank button with no command, select Unassigned Button).

   Note: If no command is associated with a toolbar button, the Macintosh beeps when you choose the button.

5. In the Button box, select the last button on the list (an empty square).

6. Choose the Change button and then choose the Close button.
