Your HTML document opens as text only when all of the following conditions are true:
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, versions 1.0 and 1.0z. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
To ensure your HTML document does not open as text only, do the following:
1. From the File menu, choose Open.
2. Make sure the Confirm Conversions check box is selected (checked).
3. In the Confirm Conversions dialog box, select Hypertext Markup
Language.
4. Choose OK.
When a document is currently open by another user, Word will display the following prompt:
<path>\<filename.ext> is being used by <user name>.
Do you want to make a copy?
You can choose OK to open a read-only copy of the document. If Confirm
Conversions is not selected, any HTML document will open as text.
