After you choose Copy Hyperlink from the Edit menu, hyperlink text with bold, italic, or underline formatting may revert to the default character formatting. This behavior occurs when the selection is the first paragraph of the document.
Also, when you save a document based on the HTML template, any direct formatting--such as bold, italics, or underline--applied to hyperlink text is removed.
For additional information on how character styles are converted to HTML, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

TITLE : IA: Character Styles Not Preserved in Hyperlink Text
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Assistant for Word, versions 1.0 and 1.0z. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
Copy the hyperlink text before applying the character formatting.
If the character formatting is dropped after conversion, you can add additional HTML tags to your HTML document by editing the document as text only. If you again edit the document in Word, save it, and close it, the character formatting will be removed, and you will need to manually reenter the HTML markup.
