Inserting a Table of Figures Reformats Existing Tables

SYMPTOMS

Inserting a new table of figures in a document that already contains a table of figures reformats the pre-existing table with the formatting of the most recently inserted one. This behavior also affects tables of equations and other tables that use caption labels.

Word uses the "Table of Figures" style to create the look of a table of figures. This style is redefined depending upon the look you choose from the Index And Tables dialog box, thus altering all tables of figures in a document.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

1. Insert two figures with captions in a new document.

2. With the insertion point after the last figure, choose Index And

   Tables from the Insert menu.

3. Accept the defaults and choose OK.

4. From the Insert menu, choose Index and Tables.

5. In the Formats list box, choose a different style and choose OK.

6. A dialog box will ask "Do you want to replace the selected table of

   figures?" Choose No.

7. The original table of figures assumes the characteristics of the new

   one.
