The value of a custom property will be displayed as zero in the Properties list if an incorrect association is made between Type and Value. For example, if you define a custom property as type "number" (without the quotation marks), and you then define the value as a text string, the Properties list shows a value of zero. There is no error message to indicate an invalid match between the value and the data types. (To locate this option, click Properties on the File menu.)
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word for Windows 95 version 7.0. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
To work around this problem, select the property, and retype the value to match the type.
