MacWord: 1.44-MB Floppy Disk Drive Required to Setup w/ DisksLast reviewed: February 6, 1998Article ID: Q122374 |
The information in this article applies to:
SUMMARYTo install Word for the Macintosh using disks, you must have a 1.44- megabyte (MB) floppy disk drive (Super Drive). You cannot install Word on a Macintosh with only an 800-kilobyte (KB) floppy disk drive. Once installed, however, Word does not require a 1.44-MB disk drive. As a result, if your computer does not have a 1.44-MB disk drive but otherwise meets the hardware requirements, you can install Word from a network server.
MORE INFORMATIONThe Macintosh II is the only computer with a 68020 processor that Apple shipped without a 1.44-MB floppy disk drive. Other Macintosh computers that do not have a 1.44-MB disk drive (such as the Macintosh 128K, 512K, 512Ke, Plus, and SE) also do not have the 68020 processor required to run Microsoft Word 6.0 or 6.0.1.
