When you exit an application that you started from the Microsoft Toolbar, you get a "Cannot write to <application> file" error message.
For example, Microsoft Project gives the following error message when you exit from a session that you started from the Microsoft Toolbar:
Cannot write to WINPROJ.INI file
You are running the Microsoft application from a read-only server location.
When you start an application from the Microsoft Toolbar, your system ignores the working directory and any switches specified in the Program Item Properties of the application's icon in Program Manager. The Microsoft Toolbar starts a program based on the information supplied in the Registration Database, which doesn't mention a working directory, and does not look at icon information in Program Manager.
Some applications require a working directory in which to save changes made to a program's environment. If no working directory is specified, the application uses the program directory. If the program directory is read-only, or if you do not have access rights to the directory, error messages may occur.
