The information in this article applies to:
If you edit an embedded Microsoft Word 6.0 Document or Picture object, you are not prompted to save changes when you close the object. This happens whether you edit the Word 6.0 object in place (in situ) in the container application or open it in a separate Word window.
By contrast, you are prompted to save an embedded Microsoft Word 2.x Document object when you close it.
Word 6.0 is an OLE 2.0 (object linking and embedding) application, and OLE 2.0 applications, by design, do not prompt you to save when you close an object that is open for editing, either in situ or in a separate container application window. This happens even if you embed the Word 6.0 object in an OLE 1.0 container (client) application such as Windows 3.1 Write.
Word 2.x is an OLE 1.0 application, and OLE 1.0 applications, by design, DO prompt you to save when you close an object that is open for editing in a server application.
