No Result When You Try to Insert ANSI Code from Keypad

SYMPTOMS

When you try to insert a symbol by holding the ALT key and typing the ANSI character code on the numeric keypad, nothing happens or the mouse pointer moves around the screen. If you do this when the NUMLOCK is inactive, you hear a beep.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when MouseKeys is enabled. The MouseKeys feature enables you to use the numeric keypad to move the mouse pointer and to click, double-click, and drag.

RESOLUTION

Use the Symbol command on the Insert menu to insert the character in your document, or disable MouseKeys. To disable MouseKeys, use the following steps:

1. Point to Settings on the Start menu, and click Control Panel.

2. Click Accessibility Options.

3. Select the Mouse tab.

4. Clear the Use MouseKeys box.

5. Click OK.
