The information in this article applies to:
When you draw an object in Word, then convert the object to a picture, and then try to edit that picture in the Word Picture editor, the picture does not appear in the Word Picture document window.
The Word Picture editor always sets its margins to the default margins in your NORMAL.DOT, instead of using the document's margins. If the object you drew is larger than NORMAL.DOT's default margins, it will not show up in the Word Picture editor.
For example, if your drawing (at 100 percent scale) is 3 inches wide
---------|---------|---------|
0 1 2 3
and the default margins of your document are set to 5 inches
---------|---------|---------|---------|---------|
0 1 2 3 4 5
but the default margins of NORMAL.DOT are 2.5 inches
---------|---------|-----
0 1 2
then the picture will not be visible in the Word Picture editor.
This problem only occurs with drawing objects, not with clip art.
Method 1: Redraw the picture so that its size is within the NORMAL.DOT
default margins before you try to edit it in the Word Picture
editor. (Note: Resizing the picture by reducing the scale will
not work.)
Method 2: If you don't want to redraw the object, select the picture, and
run the DrawDisassemblePicture macro. This will change the
picture back to a drawing object. Reduce the size of the drawing
object to fit within the NORMAL.DOT default margins, and then
(with the object selected) choose the Create Picture button on
the Drawing toolbar. Double-click the drawing to edit it.
Method 3: Modify the default margins of NORMAL.DOT so that they're wider
and taller than the picture.
