Section Break in an INCLUDE Documents May Affect Format

SYMPTOMS

When a form letter contains an include instruction and the document to be included contains a section break, the section formatting of the main document may be changed by the section formatting of the included document.

NOTE: In Word 6.0 Word 98 the include field is "INCLUDETEXT." In Word Word 4.0, Word 5.0, the include field is "INCLUDE."

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the section formatting is stored within the section break, and when it is placed into a document, it affects the text that comes before it in the document.

Section formatting that may be affected includes options such as page number, number of columns, headers and footers, margins, line numbers, page size and orientation, and footnotes.
