In Microsoft Word for Windows, Smart Quote characters are recognized as word delimiters by the quick keys used to go to, select, or delete the next or previous word. These quick keys are as follows:
CTRL+LEFT ARROW Go to previous word
CTRL+RIGHT ARROW Go to next word
   CTRL+SHIFT+LEFT ARROW Select previous word
   CTRL+SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW Select next word
   CTRL+BACKSPACE Delete previous word
   CTRL+DEL Delete next word
Because the above quick keys recognize enabled Smart Quotes as
delimiters, the keys do not correctly select, delete, or reposition on
the entire word containing them.
Smart Quotes are publishing characters provided in macro form for use with Word. To install Smart Quotes:
1. Open NEWMACRO.DOC (EXAMPLES.DOC in version 1.x).
2. Select SmartQuotes.
3. Choose the Install button.
This procedure adds the EnableSmartQuotes and DisableSmartQuotes macros to your normal template. Running EnableSmartQuotes allows you to insert the characters by pressing the DOUBLE QUOTE (") or APOSTROPHE (') key.
