When you open a document using the Open Office Document command from the Start menu or from the Office Shortcut Bar (OSB), you receive the following error message:
The application associated with the selected template could not be
started, or the application could not use the selected template.
Cause: Your document does not have the correct extension for the Office program it should be associated with.
Resolution: Rename the document with the proper extension.
Cause: Office cannot find the application associated with the document because the application is incorrectly registered or the registration information has become corrupt.
Resolution: Reregister Office by running Setup with the /y switch. For information on how to do this, please see the section titled "Rebuilding the Original Office for Windows 95 Registry Settings" in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
