When you create a Microsoft Map in Microsoft Excel, the only symbol that is available in the Microsoft Map Control dialog box is the graduated symbol.
This problem occurs when the data you use to create the map uses zip codes as geographic data.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
If you format the first column of the data with a zip code number format, and then create a Microsoft Map on the worksheet, the only symbol you can display on the Map to represent the data is the graduated symbol.
