WD: Documents Containing Equations with TrueType Won't Print

Last reviewed: February 5, 1998
Article ID: Q99719
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.1, 6.0

SYMPTOMS

Pages containing equations built with the Equation Editor Plug-in Module (PIM) may not print to PostScript printers. This can occur if the equations are formatted with TrueType fonts.

RESOLUTION

Redefine the Equation Styles to PostScript fonts, and the pages will print correctly.

To change the styles in the Equation Editor and correct existing equations, follow these steps:

  1. In Equation Editor, click Define on the Style menu.

  2. Each of the eight styles displays its available fonts in a list box. Change any TrueType fonts to PostScript fonts by clicking the list box and selecting an appropriate font.

  3. Click OK.

  4. Quit Equation Editor.

  5. Open and close each equation in the document to update the styles for each equation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Word versions 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, for the Macintosh. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
