The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you open a Word 97 for Windows document in Word 98 Macintosh Edition, ActiveX controls (for example a button or a check box) will be converted to pictures. These pictures will not have ActiveX functionality. If you save the document from Word 98 Macintosh Edition, the controls are converted permanently. That is, once you save the document, you cannot recover the ActiveX functionality by re-opening the document in Word 97 for Windows.
CAUSEBy design, Word 98 Macintosh Edition does not support ActiveX controls.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, do either of the following:
