When you save a Word document to a Windows NT server, the following error message may be returned to the Windows NT Event Log:
Error 3009 - The redirector failed to unlock part of a file on server
<Server Name>.
This message indicates that the server no longer knows about a lock that Word placed on the file.
Suppose you open a file that is located on a server in Word. If the server that the file is on goes away and comes back (for example, if it crashes and is then reset or power cycled), Word tells the server to release the lock on the file when you close the file. However, because the server has been reset, it no longer knows about the lock and returns the error message to the Windows NT Event log.
This problem has been identified as a Windows NT environment issue. The problem was corrected in Windows NT version 4.0 Service Pack 3.
