XL: How to Assign a Custom Image to a Toolbar Button

In Microsoft Excel, you can change the image of a toolbar button, either by editing the existing image or by replacing it with a picture or a custom graphic.

To edit the button image, follow these steps:

1. On the View Menu, click Toolbars.

2. Click Customize.

3. With the Customize dialog box open, using the right mouse button 

   (control-click on the Apple Macintosh), click the toolbar button you
   want to change.
4. Click Edit Button Image.

To replace the button image, follow these steps:

1. Insert a picture in the spreadsheet by clicking Picture on the Insert 

   menu.
2. Select the picture on the spreadsheet, and then click Copy on the Edit 
   Menu.
3. On the View Menu, click Toolbars.

4. Click Customize.

5. With the Customize dialog box open, using the right mouse button 

   (control-click on the Apple Macintosh), click the toolbar button you
   want to change.
6. Click Paste Button Image.

NOTE: You will achieve better image quality by enabling the Large Buttons setting in the Toolbars dialog box before clicking the Paste Button Image on the shortcut menu. To do so, click Toolbars on the View menu, and then click to select the Large Buttons check box.

To restore the button's original image, follow these steps:

1. On the View Menu, click Toolbars.

2. Click Customize.

3. With the Customize Dialog box open, using the right mouse button 

   (control-click on the Apple Macintosh), click the toolbar button you
   want to change.
4. Click Reset Button Image.
