This article describes how you can run the Word wizards using default settings that you define.
Default information for the Word for Windows wizards is stored in the Wordwiz.ini file, located in the Windows folder. On the Macintosh, this information is stored in the Word Wizard Preferences file, located in the System:Preferences folder. Each time you run one of the wizards, the information that you enter, as well as certain default settings, are stored in this file. Each subsequent time you use a wizard, the wizard reads this information and uses it by default. If an appropriate entry from the Wordwiz.ini or the Word Wizard Preferences file cannot be found, then the wizard relies on what has been written into the wizard's code as its default.
You can set the Wordwiz.ini or the Word Wizard Preferences file attribute to Read-Only so that your wizards run with your default information instead of the wizard's standard defaults or the last information you entered in the wizard. To change the status of the Wordwiz.ini or the Word Wizard Preferences file attribute to Read-Only, use one of the following procedures:
1. Start Windows Explorer.
2. Select the Wordwiz.ini file in the Windows folder.
3. On the File menu, click Properties.
4. Select the Read-only check box. Click OK.

Manager.
2. Highlight the Wordwiz.ini file in the Windows directory.
3. From the File menu, choose Properties and select the Read-Only check
box. Choose the OK button.
Before you set the Wordwiz.ini file attribute to Read-Only, use either of
the following methods to create your default settings:
Method 1:
1. Start the wizard by choosing New from the File menu. In the New dialog
box, select the desired Wizard and click OK.
2. As the Wizard prompts you for information, answer the prompts with the
information you want to use as your defaults. Click Finish when you have
completed all the prompts. You do not need to save this document.
Method 2:
1. Start the wizard by choosing New from the File menu. In the New dialog
box, select the desired Wizard and click OK.
2. As the Wizard prompts you for information, answer the prompts with the
information you want to use as your defaults. Click Finish when you have
completed all the prompts. You do not need to save your document.
3. Open the Wordwiz.ini file in Notepad. Manually modify the lines where
you want to specify default text. See the example below:

AwardTitle=Text you want

PresenterStyle=2

4. Save and close the Wordwiz.ini file after making your changes.
1. Open the System:Preferences folder and select the Word Wizard
Preferences icon.
2. Click Get Info on the File menu, select the Locked check box, and then
close the Window.
Before you set the Word Wizard Preferences file attribute to Locked, do the
following to create your default settings:
1. Start the wizard by choosing New from the File menu. In the New dialog
box, select the desired Wizard and choose the OK button.
2. As the Wizard prompts you for information, answer the prompts with the
information you want to use as your defaults. Choose the Finish button
when you have completed all the prompts. You do not need to save this
document.
Unlike the Wordwiz.ini file, this file is a binary file and cannot be
edited. In order to restore the default Wizard settings, quit Word and
then delete or rename this file.
