Please note that the Macro Virus Protection Tool is intended as an interim
tool only. For a permanent solution to macro virus problems, install anti-
virus software that is specifically designed to detect Word macro viruses.
Such software is available from several third-party companies. For

To scan a floppy disk for macro viruses in Word documents:
1. On the File menu, click Open.
2. In the Files of Type list, select Document Templates.
3. Locate the Scanprot.dot template. Depending on where you installed it,
this template may be in the Templates folder or in the Word folder.
4. Select Scanprot.dot and click Open (or OK).
5. If you are running Word for the Macintosh, type the title of the floppy
disk followed by a colon in the Batch Cleanup Procedure window. For
example, type
untitled:
If you are running Word for Windows (any version), type the drive
letter of the floppy disk followed by a colon and a backslash in the
Batch Cleanup Procedure window. For example, type:
a:\
6. Click OK.
Word will now scan the floppy disk for Word documents that may contain suspicious macros.
